Portrait of the Artist as a Young Woman
Kathy Nida
This is me, the product of women who taught me to sew, encouraged me to draw, stuck me in classes, bought me pens and paper, gave me the confidence to make, create, draw, quilt, sculpt, photograph, screenprint, whatever to take what's in my head and get it out. There were so few women artists taught that I thought I was the reincarnation of Mary Cassat, because she was the only female artist I'd heard about. Women weren't in the textbook. How could we DO it when it was so hard to see those who came before? I'm glad you persisted.
